Arnulf Rainer - Prints and Drawings

December 13, 2022 - February 28, 2023

Special presentation starting December 13, 2022

Arnulf Rainer - Prints and Drawings
together with works by Michael Horsky, Maria Lassnig and Elisabeth Plank

The diversity of Arnulf Rainer's print oeuvre can be seen in our current special presentation. For several decades, the artist used printmaking techniques such as lithography and drypoint engraving.

Drypoint etching in particular enabled the artist to work successively on the printing plates. This resulted in dense meshes of lines, sometimes producing gentle and small forms, sometimes covering the entire sheet.

Rainer's first etchings showed only black. It was not until the 1960s and 1970s that Rainer added colour to his etchings. For works such as Chocolate (1976/97), colour is an important design element.
