PASTICCIO WITH FLORA
26 September – 24 October 2025
Flowers and plants have been among the central subjects of art for centuries. They stand for beauty and transience, for the observation of nature, symbolism, and artistic creativity. The exhibition Pasticcio on Flora is dedicated to various artistic approaches to the plant motif from the 19th century to the present.
On view are works by Arnulf Rainer and Elisabeth Plank, who incorporate natural forms into their visual language in very different ways. They are complemented by photographs by Elfriede Mejchar, Robert Mapplethorpe, Nobuyoshi Araki, and Lou Bonin-Tchimoukoff, which depict plants between documentary precision, sensuality, and artistic staging. From the 19th century, the exhibition presents drawings by Olga Wisinger-Florian, a still life by Josef Lauer, as well as works by Pauline Freiin von Koudelka-Schmerling and Andreas Lach, representing the tradition of flower painting. Botanical models and nature prints expand the artistic depictions with a scientific perspective.
