Gunter
Damisch

1958 - 2016

Gunter Damisch was born in 1958 in Steyr in Upper Austria and studied from 1978 to 1985 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Max Melcher and Arnulf Rainer. Together with Siegfried Anzinger, Erwin Bohatsch, Herbert Brandl, Hubert Scheibl, Hubert Schmalix and others, the painter is considered a representative of the "Neue Wilden" , an art movement that stands for subjective, carefree and life-affirming painting. His oeuvre includes painting, ceramics, aluminum sculptures, bronze sculptures, drawing, photography, collage and screen printing.

The large-format oil paintings are characterized by an intense and contrasting color scheme. The characteristic of his works results from the play with color, contrast and space.
